Smile Science

Following your treatment we suggest you follow a few simple guidelines to maintain the look of your new white smile. Everyone's teeth have a protective layer call the protein pellicle. This layer contains the surface dental stains and is removed during our treatments. It takes at least twenty-four hours for the barrier to fully develop again. During this period we ask you to avoid certain items as outlined below/

Not Recommended

We strongly advise that you refrain from consuming food and drink except water, during the first 2 hours following the whitening treatment. For 72 hours clients should refrain from eating or drinking anything that is rich in colour or dark and staining. This includes:

  • Coffee,
  • Tea,
  • Cola,
  • Curry,
  • Soy Sauce,
  • Red wine,
  • or anything else which is rich in colour and which could cause staining. (We also advise refraining from tobacco).

The rule of thumb is if it can stain a white shirt, avoid it completely.

Aftercare is an essential part of teeth whitening and if our guidelines are adhered to, the whitening results can last anywhere between 6 - 12 months depending on the individual lifestyles and oral habits.
